Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20, 1964) was an American lawyer, politician and vice president of United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female to be elected vice president and is also the most powerful female officer in the history of America. Harris is a member of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. Additionally, she served as a United States senator representing California between 2017-2021. Harris was born in Oakland and attended Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Her professional career started with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. She was elected San Francisco district attorney in 2003. Harris was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010, and reelected in 2014. From 2017 until 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris beat Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election and became the second African American woman to serve in Congress , and the only South Asian American American to do so in the United States Senate. As senator, she was a vocal advocate for reforms to healthcare and federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants as well as the DREAM Act, a ban of assault weapons and progressive tax reform. The attention of the nation was drawn by her shrewd questioning of Trump administration officials during Senate sessions. This included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual assault.
